Venezuela is holding a major international aeronautical fair, its first in years, just as the Trump administration steps up pressure on President Nicolás Maduro.
The four-day event, happening at a former airbase near Caracas, features aircraft displays, business forums and participation from Russia, Iran and several Latin American countries.
President Nicolás Maduro attended the opening ceremony, describing the fair as proof that Venezuela remains active in global aviation despite external pressure.
The Trump administration has recently tightened sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector and threatened further measures if Maduro does not step down or agree to new elections.
Organisers say the expo aims to revive the country’s aviation industry and attract foreign investment, at a time when most international airlines have suspended flights to Caracas and spare parts remain scarce because of earlier U.S. restrictions.
