December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities 🌍

Today, we’re featuring Jordan Braund, an inspiring athlete, coach, and advocate in the powerlifting community.

Jordan began competing in USAPL as a freshman in high school, attending High School Nationals three out of four years. During the summer between her junior and senior year, a car accident left her a bilateral below-knee amputee, but she refused to let that stop her from lifting. Determined to stay involved, Jordan began coaching high school powerlifting, a role she’s held for nearly six years, and founded SF BARBELL, an adaptive powerlifting team aimed at guiding more athletes into the sport. She also recently became a USAPL national-level referee!

Jordan started Para Powerlifting three years ago and quickly made her mark. By her second competition, she joined the developmental team for Team USA – USA Adaptive Powerlifting. She competed at the national qualifier for the 2025 Para Powerlifting World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, and is now ranked 16th in the world in the Women’s up to 67 kg category. She also won 1st place at the IDFPA Bench World Championships in the Women’s Junior 75 kg class.

Her next steps? Jordan continues to train with her coach Joey Shepard, advancing her able-bodied benching, mastering her prosthetics for strength gains, and working toward competing in deadlift again. She’ll keep judging at USAPL events to earn her Category 2 referee rank and aims to make Team USA Para Powerlifting again at the national qualifier this January, with her sights set on competing at the American Regional Games in Chile this May.

Jordan’s story is a powerful reminder that determination, resilience, and passion know no limits. 💪
