There are people in watch design who add details — and then there are those whose lines and proportions feel inevitable once you see them.
Lee is firmly the latter.

To mark the season, we sat down with our Design Manager, Lee Yuen-Rapati, to talk about inspiration, favourite pieces and the quiet evolution of Fears design.

For anyone new to Fears, how would you introduce yourself?

“My name is Lee Yuen-Rapati, I am a Design Manager at Fears. I began working with the brand in 2019, initially as a contractor to design a set of bespoke numerals known as the 'Edwin' which debuted on the Brunswick 38 Copper Salmon and now appear across our range as Fears' signature numerals. Within a year I redesigned the logo and began working on dial layout design for various projects. Since 2022 I have been working in-house at Fears and have seen the brand and team blossom through the years. Currently I oversee the design department, executing the design of watch dials, hands, cases, as well as branding elements and ephemera.”

And from the current collection — is there one piece that feels especially personal to you?

“My honest answer can't be shared in this post as the watch hasn't been released yet! Due to the long development and production cycles, by the time a watch is released I have my focus pointed towards working on something 12–24 months away. However from our current collection I would go with the Redcliff 39.5 Date Pewter Grey as a personal favourite…”

Can you share a design detail people may not notice at first glance?

“The Pewter Grey stands out as a bridge between the past Fears, and what the brand has evolved into… The vertically brushed galvanic dial harkens back to the Brunswick 38 Copper Salmon… the stepped chapter ring… the multicolour printing… and the subtle but liberal use of the Edwin numeral set…”

A designer’s eye, turned towards the quiet details that shape the identity of modern Fears.
