## Caption

You've walked by Witherspoon Student Center hundreds of times, but you might not know the story of the man it's named after. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the second African American to earn a Ph.D. from NC State when he received his doctorate in 1971. He went on to hold various positions at NC State, from a professor of botany in @NCStateCALS to associate provost and coordinator of African American Affairs. Witherspoon Student Center was dedicated in 1995 in honor of Witherspoon's commitment to mentoring students while serving as an outstanding researcher, professor and community leader. Witherspoon Student Center is now home to the @aaculturalcenter, the campus cinema, Military and Veteran Services and Student Media. #BlackHistoryMonth #NCStateBHM
