## Caption

When Irwin Holmes earned his @ncstateengr degree in 1960, he was the first black student to graduate from NC State. Not only was he @packathletics' first black student-athlete, he was also the ACC's first black athlete, first black varsity letter winner and first black co-captain of a varsity team. University College Commons was renamed in honor of this pioneering student-athlete in November 2018. The hall sits across from Tucker and Owen and adjacent to the tennis courts where Holmes spent hours practicing as a member of the varsity tennis team. Holmes is pictured with his wife, Meredythe, on the day of the dedication ceremony. #BlackHistoryMonth #NCStateBHM
