“I discovered NC State after my high school Apparel Development teacher suggested it to me. I was seeking a university that would allow me to obtain a technical fashion degree with a traditional school experience. Naively, I googled ‘NC State College of Design’ to learn more about our fashion majors, before realizing my home would be @ncstatewilson. I traveled from Charlotte to Raleigh for a tour and stumbled into a friend from high school. After she gave me a more informal tour, I quickly decided NC State was the only college for me. I bought a pair of NC State sweatpants from Wolfpack Outfitters, in Harrelson Hall at the time, then submitted my application — in that order.
.
Today, I am a graduate student in the @globalluxurymgt dual-degree master's program with @ncstatepoolemgt and @skema_bs in Paris, France. I am so thankful for my undergraduate experiences at NC State studying fashion and textile management, maintaining social media and strategic marketing for @ncstateuab and @ncstate, and joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
.
NC State helped me develop my passion for fashion and created a platform that I will use to make a global impact within the luxury fashion industry while increasing Black representation and diversity. I urge the fellow Wolfpack to try new things and take chances, even if you cannot anticipate the outcome because many of my most impactful experiences were least expected.
.
As I transition into my final semester of graduate school in Paris, France, I find joy in reflecting on all of the things that NC State helped me discover. No matter the success I achieve, or where I am on the map, it’ll always be ‘Go Pack!’” —Imani Starling-Brown, graduate student studying global luxury and management
