"Let me tell y’all about one of my best friends. Our friendship has been around for 8 years and man this friendship has brought about one Hell of an adventure. This friend of mine, track and field, has put me on this crazy roller coaster. Bringing me high, bringing me low, but a ride that has brought nothing but pure joy, happiness, and peace.
This friend of mine has taught me many valuable lessons. It has taught me the definition of hard work, sacrifice, perseverance, and teamwork. You see this friend, like all friends, knows how to poke fun at you, but also cheer you up. Test you but makes you think. Stresses you out, but brings you peace.
They say moments of silence are where you find inner peace. It’s in moments of silence where you discover who you are, what you're capable of, and how far you can push your mental and physical limits. Track taught me that.
You know one of the most freeing feelings I have ever experienced in life has been the start of a hurdle race. Especially that moment right before the gun goes off. That last breath you take while staring down the track. It's perfect. You have a little bit of anxiety mixed with some fear but all of that disappears when you get in the blocks and you got your best friend staring right back at you cheering you on, calming you before that gun goes off. I’m gonna miss that.
I am glad that we have been so close for so long and it’s sad to see us part ways. I feel like I am about to lose a close friend, and while we may be going our separate ways for now, it is for the best. One day we will reunite and hopefully, I can share my appreciation and love for you to the next person who is looking for that friend that will bring them the same joy, excitement, and adventure you have brought me. Thanks to you I am strong. I am confident. I am Joshua Gandy and there is no barrier too high or too wide that cannot be overcome.
