We asked Optics Letters Editor-in-Chief Miguel Alonso about what it’s like to work with the Optica Publishing Group:

How has volunteering with the Optica Publishing Group impacted your career?

“I think the different Editorial positions I have had have increased my visibility and put me in contact with members of the optics and photonics community I would not have met otherwise. It has also given me a much better understanding of the editorial process and the nature of editorial decisions.”

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a reviewer?

“A good reviewer is not someone who is always negative (or positive) but someone who provides useful information to the authors and the editors.”
