This week's Shabbat Shout Out is going out to our juniors, seniors, and chaperones of this year's long awaited HIP Trip. 

On Monday, DJDS is sending it's largest cohort ever on their long-awaited Israel journey.  To celebrate and send them off in style, the entire school gathered with signs, decorations, and loud cheers to send them off with love and excitement.

This trip has been years in the making for both grades — postponed since October 7, 2023 — and the anticipation is real. 

Here’s what some of our students shared as they prepare to finally board that plane:

“I am excited… not only because I get to be with my friends and family, but also to immerse myself in activities my last trip didn’t offer me.” — Joey

“It feels surreal… I still remember the fake flight to Israel in kindergarten with Mr. Halzel. I can't believe it’s finally my turn. Going now, after the delay, feels more meaningful because I’m old enough to understand the history and the places in a deeper way.” — Cooper

“Going now, after the delay, feels significant to me because now we are seniors, and our time at DJDS is limited. It is really forcing me to enjoy and make my most of these four weeks. I can't wait!. It feels full circle.” — Holden

“I am feeling good… this feels significant because after two years of waiting, it’s finally happening.” — Jonah

This is the biggest HIP group DJDS has ever sent, and they carry with them our community’s pride, support, and hopes for an unforgettable four weeks of learning, exploring, and connecting.
