wracdst The Warner Robins Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated hosted the “Balance versus Burnout Candle Making Workshop” in partnership with the Houston County Department of Public Health Nurse Family Partnership Program, created especially for new and expecting moms. Organized by the Physical and Mental Health Committee, this event served as a gentle reminder of the importance of maternal health and how much mothers benefit from safe spaces that allow them to relax and take a breath.

Moms enjoyed a stress-relieving, hands-on candle-making experience with guidance from Pretty Lux Co., which provided the supplies and enabled each mother to craft her own candle with fragrances of her choice. This personalized activity offered a moment of creativity, mindfulness, and relaxation. For many moms, the candle became a symbol of self-care that they can take home and use whenever they need a quiet moment.

We also thank Soror Patience Riley, LPC, R PLC, PMH C., for leading our wellness session with care and expertise. Her discussion on maternal mental health, self-care, and emotional support during pregnancy and postpartum offered tools that moms can carry with them beyond this event.

WRAC’s Physical and Mental Health Committee assisted with setup, sign-in, breathing exercise support, serving, and providing delicious charcuterie cups and cake. The focus was to ensure that mothers felt supported, welcomed, and cared for throughout the evening.

This initiative embodies Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated National Strategic Plan Component of Empowering Women and Girls and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to addressing critical needs in our community. We are grateful for our continued partnership with the Houston County Department of Public Health.
