After spending most of his early career jumping over hurdles, Ethical Diamond (Awtaad) steadily stepped it up this season as he found success in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Ebor Handicap at York.

The best was yet to come for the 5-year-old gelding, trained by the legendary Willie Mullins, as he upset this year’s running of the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf with a surging run down the stretch to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths over Rebel’s Romance in track record time of 2:25.45.

Ethical Diamond quickly went from his trainer’s first Breeders’ Cup runner to his first Breeders’ Cup winner, ridden by Irish champion jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle.
