He never planned on working in family violence, but one role changed everything for Senior Sergeant Lloyd.⁣
⁣
After years on the frontline in Melbourne’s West, Lloyd spent eight years as a Family Violence Liaison Officer and that’s where it clicked.⁣
⁣
“Helping vulnerable people and holding perpetrators to account is one of the reasons I joined Victoria Police in the first place.”⁣
⁣
The work was challenging and complex, but it also showed him what good policing can do.⁣

Today, Lloyd is a Family Violence Training Officer, helping members across the division build the skills needed to respond safely and compassionately - whether they’re fresh from the Academy or worked decades in the job.⁣
⁣
He’s honest about what it takes:⁣
🔹 Empathy.⁣
🔹 Zero judgement.⁣
🔹 Awareness of your own biases.⁣
🔹 Looking after your own wellbeing.⁣
⁣
“As much as responding to family violence can be challenging, I still think it can be one of the most rewarding areas to work in.”⁣
⁣
During this year’s 16 Days of Activism, Lloyd's message is clear:⁣
⁣
If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, support is available through services like The Orange Door, GenWest, Berry Street, or by contacting police.⁣
