Lumbala trial – another survivor takes the stand. 
He described to the Paris Court of Assizes the circumstances that led to his father's death when militiamen called "Effaceurs" invaded Mambasa and committed numerous crimes.
 
When the Effacers took the city, the survivor and his family had taken refuge on the outskirts. A few days later, taking advantage of a lull in the fighting, his father had returned to the city center with other residents to retrieve food and personal belongings left in their homes. 
 
He learned that on the way, the group was intercepted by Effacer fighters and taken before their leader. One of them managed to escape. The others, several of whom had confirmed that they were of Nande ethnicity, were tortured, mutilated, and then executed by gunfire. The next day, a Red Cross team buried them in a mass grave.
 
On the stand, the survivor expressed his gratitude for being able to “finally have his voice heard” and said that he felt the consequences of losing his father in such circumstances every day.

Il a décrit à la cour d’assises de Paris les circonstances qui ont conduit à la mort de son père lorsque les miliciens appelés « Effaceurs » ont envahi Mambasa et commis de nombreux crimes.

Lorsque les Effaceurs ont pris la ville, la victime et sa famille s’étaient réfugiées en périphérie. Quelques jours plus tard, profitant d’une accalmie, son père était retourné au centre-ville avec d’autres habitants afin de récupérer des vivres et des effets personnels restés dans leurs maisons.

Il a appris qu’en chemin, le groupe a été intercepté par des combattants « Effaceurs » et conduit devant leur chef. L’un d’eux est parvenu à s’enfuir. Les autres, dont plusieurs avaient confirmé être d’ethnie nande, ont été torturés, mutilés, puis exécutés par arme à feu. Le lendemain, une équipe de la Croix-Rouge a procédé à leur inhumation dans une fosse commune.

À la barre, la victime a exprimé sa reconnaissance de pouvoir « enfin faire entendre sa voix » et a déclaré ressentir chaque jour les conséquences de la perte de son père dans de telles conditions.
