Starting off a new decade the best way I know how — by keeping a promise to myself 🎉💜🏃🏻‍♀️

I finished the kiawahresort half marathon this morning — the day after my 40th birthday — and I am so proud of myself! This is my first half, and honestly I think my first race since my 20s. I cried more than a few times on the course this morning. Happy tears. 

I was/am proud of myself. 

My training was mired with illness and injury and there were definitely times during the last couple months I did not think I’d be able to do it. My goal was just to finish, because at the end of the day a mile is a mile regardless of the speed, of course. 

I knew it would be important to me to set a new goal for my 40th birthday. Something to keep me on track. I spent my 30s traveling solo to every national park with the intention to finish by 40, but when I finished early I was kind of.. adrift. 

So when I saw that kiawahresort — a place I had been dreaming of visiting for years — was hosting a marathon and half the day after my milestone birthday, it felt like kismet. 

And it really was.
