People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), like specialolympicsaus athlete Ruby Lawler, are often on the sidelines when it comes to making health decisions, whether about their own healthcare or about health policy. Ruby reminds us that advocacy starts with speaking up for yourself. 

𝑭𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆, a new global health report from Special Olympics, calls on us all to scale Ruby’s power—to make sure that she and other people with IDD are not only covered by health systems but are engaged in shaping the health policies, budgets, and programs that will make universal health coverage a reality. 🤝
