Just like that, Chris Kreider’s 13-year career with the #NewYorkRangers is over.

For some, this move isn’t an easy one and not all of them are supposed to be, but that’s what makes this business and sports in general so emotional. On the other hand, there are some who feel this was long overdue. No matter what side you’re on, let’s not forget the past and what Kreider brought to this team.

A good portion of those of you that follow this page likely grew up watching Kreider get drafted, jumping right into the #NHL and soon becoming one of the main staples of the #Rangers roster for years to come. Before we knew it, he would soon become one of the greatest goal scorers in franchise history. From 52 goals in a single season, to most playoff goals, most playoff game-winning goals and even tied for the most power play goals ever. Pretty special company regardless on what your stance is on him.

The one thing that’s missing, though? A #StanleyCup. That’s what this league is all about. #NewYork has gotten close on a number of occasions during the 34-year-old’s tenure, but President’s Trophies and conference finals appearances are not what these teams and players are competing for.

At the end of the day, times change. It was clear that Kreider was not healthy last year, but it’s also safe to say that he’s simply no longer a fit for this team. Being bumped to the fourth line, removed from the top man-advantage unit and even being healthy scratched.

It’s normal to feel emotional about this move. Moving on from the longest tenured player on this team is not something that has happened on a regular basis.

Us fans were blessed with a decade of Kreider and what he was able to bring to the table for this franchise. Now, however, it’s time to more forward. Thank you, Chris, for your time on Broadway and all the memories along the way.
