U.S. swimming legend Katie Ledecky became the first woman to break the 15-minute barrier in the 1650-yard freestyle at the Katie Ledecky Invitational in Maryland. 👑⁣

Earlier this year, organizers renamed the Nation’s Capital Invitational in honor of Ledecky, who grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. Fast forward to this weekend, racing at the University of Maryland, she delivered a moment for the history books — touching the wall in 14:59.62. 💪⁣

In the process, Ledecky broke her own American record of 15:01.41, which had stood since 2023. 👏⁣

It’s been yet another banner year for the four-time Olympic champion in the 800-meter freestyle. Ledecky set her first world record since 2016 earlier this season, clocking 8:04.12 in the 800 freestyle, then doubled with golds in the 800 and 1500 at the World Championships in Singapore. 🏆⁣
