✨ Upstate Magazine Highlights ✨: On 9/11, Marine veteran Sean Turner ’22 made a life-changing decision to leave college and serve his country. Two decades later, he returned to USC Upstate to finish what he started — this time with a wife, two sons, and a new determination.

Balancing work, family, and online learning wasn’t easy. “I’ll be honest with you, I cried a little bit,” Turner says after completing his final project. “You persevered. You made it. You didn’t do it alone, but my gosh, you did it.”

Turner proudly walked at graduation, fulfilling a promise he made to his mom in 2001 — and setting an example for his sons.
