Tynesha Brewster dropped out of Central Islip High School in the 10th grade. She started dancing at a strip club in Hempstead.

But she had made a pact with her sister Lachelle Brewster to go back to school and get her diploma.

Shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, Tynesha didn’t come home. Although Tynesha sometimes stayed out all night, her sister Shamika Vinson worried when she didn’t come home the next day. Not long afterward, a Nassau police detective showed up at Vinson’s door and said police found Tynesha’s charred body inside a smoking cargo container behind a building.
