Howardena Pindell’s exhibition ‘Off the Grid’ culminates in the monumental three-panel painting ‘Oceanic Underwater’ (2025), the artist’s response to Claude Monet’s panoramic ‘Water Lilies’ (1914–26).⁠

Comprised of vaporous fields of translucent blues and pastel lilacs, rich purples and crystal whites, ‘Oceanic Underwater’ conjures the shimmer of reflection on water, even a heavenly or galactic light.⁠
