Today we head to the Golden State to meet our Army ROTC #CadetOfTheWeek 🎉

Meet Isabel Hermann, a senior majoring in Journalism at Cal Poly. 

Cadet Hermann joined #ArmyROTC during her sophomore year of college. 

“I wanted more structure, direction, and a path that aligned with my long-term goals. I’ve always had an interest in serving, and ROTC gives me the opportunity to pursue a career in Aviation or Military Intelligence.”

Hermann completed Basic Camp last summer in 2024 and graduated from both Advanced Camp and Air Assault School in 2025. 

“These experiences pushed me far outside my comfort zone, tested my resilience, and showed me the kind of leader I want to become. They also prepared me for my current role as Battalion XO, where I have the chance to mentor younger cadets, strengthen the team, and help shape the future of our program.”

She is motivated to be a leader by her family and her peers within the Fighting Mustang Battalion. 

“As the oldest in my family, I’ve naturally grown into a leadership role, and I bring that same energy and accountability into ROTC. My peers can rely on me to stay calm under pressure and to step up when leadership is needed, whether that’s in the field or in the classroom.”

Outside of Army ROTC, Hermann works as a lifeguard and she enjoys painting 🎨 and being outdoors, camping and hiking 🥾 across California. 

Fun fact: Hermann is the oldest of four siblings. 

After graduation, Hermann will commission as an Aviation officer. She plans to serve as long as the mission and community inspire her, before eventually transitioning to a career with the FBI.
