It takes around eight years to grow a Christmas tree ready for sale – but the market’s getting squeezed. Growers in southwest Hungary report that mushrooming costs of fertilizer and transportation have added about 30% more to their cost.⁣

As a result, they say that, on average, each Christmas tree this season will cost between 10% to 15% more – meaning both buyers and sellers are facing a more financially challenging Christmas.⁣
