¿Alguna vez te has preguntado por qué los cuadros de Vincent van Gogh tienen una textura particular? 
 
Esta apariencia se debe a una técnica especial que usó al crearlos: el “impasto”. Cuando un artista utiliza este método, aplica la pintura al lienzo de forma tan densa que crea una textura tridimensional. 
 
Este cuadro, “Campos de trigo verdes, Auvers”, es un buen ejemplo. La pintura sobresale de la superficie como si Van Gogh la esculpiera, dando a la obra un elemento táctil y palpable con pinceladas brillantes y vivaces. 
 
Esta técnica incluso revelaba algo sobre el estado de ánimo del artista a la hora de crear el cuadro. 
 
Cuando estaba de mal humor o se sentía más violento utilizaba más el impasto, tal como le explicó a su hermano, Theo, en una carta. Sin embargo, en momentos de calma, sus pinceladas eran menos intensas y más ligeras.

Take “Green Wheat Fields, Auvers,” for example. The paint is rising from the surface, almost like it’s sculpted. This method gave Van Gogh’s work a palpable, tactile quality. Making his brushstrokes feel vibrant and alive. 
 
This technique even revealed something about the artist’s mood. “Violent moods,” he wrote to his brother Theo, required more impasto. When he felt calmer, the paint wasn’t as thick.
