On December 19, 1843, the book publishers Chapman & Hall of London published the first edition of what would become one of the most famous Christmas stories still today, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. For today, Jared and letterpress printed a large photo engraving with rhodamine red rubber base ink. The image is based on a Victorian lithograph that depicts a scene in the mid-1800s, and pretty similar to what was represented in Dickens’ book. This was printed using our Washington hand press, which is a very similar style of press to what would have printed Dickens’ work. #SacHistoryMuseum #onthisday #santajclaus #achristmascarol #printing
