Here's something fun! Tonight, I'm teaming up with talbotsofficial to share some "Momtras": little bits of advice that my mother passed along to me. My favorite: When I was in 6th grade, I was insistent that I didn't need math. (Ironic that I would later marry a math teacher, but whatever. 😜) One night, while my tears splashed onto the pages of the textbook and my dad threw up his hands in frustration, I remember Mom taking me aside and whispering, "I know this might sound crazy, but you at least need math to figure out the best sales. For instance, how much is a $49.99 dress if it's 40 percent off? $29.99. You've gotta be quick or else someone else is going to snatch that dress out from under you!" 😉 Years down the road, Mom would also teach me that you should never make major life decisions when hungry, tired or cold; that everything looks better after a glass of wine and a good night's sleep; that you can just move to the city if you're not a good driver (🙋🏼‍♀️); and that pigs are not actually cute and pink like they're depicted in storybooks. 🐽 (When she finally saw a pig in real life, my UES mother was apparently HORRIFIED. 😆) On a somewhat related note, I'll tell you about the time we left Long Island and moved to a small, undeveloped town in NJ. When we pulled into our new driveway one night, there stood roughly 20 deer, all frozen in our headlights. Screaming, Mom yanked my brothers and me out of the car and ran us to "safety"; let the car battery die because there was NO WAY she was "going back out there"; and called my dad--still commuting home--to ask him how, exactly, we'd "ended up in New Jersey." (For the record, I love Jersey JUST as much as I love New York... and today, so does Mom! Shore Girls for life! 👯‍♀️) On a more serious note, my mother also taught me the importance of giving back; the importance of being kind to *everyone*; and the importance of "family first, always." I love you, Mom! Thank you for being the best mother + friend I could ever wish for.
