"Baby Shark, doo doo doo doo!" 🦈 Okay. But let's really talk about "Baby Shark" for a second. (Wearing #nicandzoe, btw, which is available at Nordstrom! If you haven't heard of the brand, they specialize in insanely comfy clothing that can be dressed down for play and dressed up for the office. GREAT for working moms!) For a while there, I thought "Baby Shark" was just a song from a weird kids' music video that the Larkins had regrettably discovered on YouTube, and that we were one of the very few families forced to listen and sing along to it on repeat. 🤦🏼‍♀️ But NO! It's a worldwide phenomenon. It was actually first released in 2007 on YouTube by a German performer "alemuel," though it’s said that the concept and some form of the song has existed since the early 1990s, which explains why so many of us know it from our childhoods. (My aunt, for example, sang it to her kids, who are now all in their 20s.) Set to the theme of "Jaws," alemuel’s version was about a baby shark that grows up to eat a swimmer. 😬 Disco beats were added when alemuel was offered a record deal. It was then re-released the following year on the radio... and it hit #25 on German charts! 🤭 THEN, a South Korean education brand put out a version of the song accompanying a kids' video in 2015, which quickly went viral in Asia. Fast forward to 2018, and "Baby Shark" has over 1.8 billion views on YouTube, making it the 33rd most popular video in the world. 💃🏼 It's played in international dance clubs; Ellen Degeneres has created her own version of the song; and #omg, you have to watch the Josh Groban/James Corden/Sophie Turner rendition of it on "The Late Late Show." (Seriously. Look it up now. SO FUNNY.) And have you seen the "Baby Shark" meme? The one that goes, "I went from 'I wanna be a baller, shot-caller' to 'baby shark, doo doo doo doo.'"
