Oh how I wish I heard this advice when I was a first time mom! I remember being in the depths of postpartum and really missing my old life.

I deeply loved my baby but in the moment I was mourning a life that was no longer mine. It’s hard to explain how these two emotions can exist at the same time.

I missed my full nights of sleep, brunches with my girlfriends, and date nights with my husband. But as time went on and we found our groove and I began to get those things back! Sure it wasn’t as often as it use to be but I also appreciated those moments on a level I never have before.

I was more grateful, patient, and present. I realized that some of the things I thought I missed no longer served me. They didn’t fill me with the enjoyment they once did. But as those things faded from my heart, new experiences filled it as I journeyed further into motherhood.

As stated above, becoming a mother doesn’t erase who we were rather it allows us to shed parts of ourselves that no longer serve us.

The past is comforting because it’s what we know but we aren’t meant to live in the past.

So to the mother postpartum who finds herself grieving her old life, I know it’s hard to recognize it now but I promise, when you get to the other side it’s going to be amazing in ways you never imagined 🥹❤️❤️
