It took me way too long to figure out I had options when it came to the glucose pregnancy gestational diabetes test.

*Please not this is not medical advice. I am just one mom sharing her experiences in hopes that it helps bring light to some thing I had no clue about to others 🤗❤️ ALWAYS talk to your health care provider and discuss with them your options.*

Personally, I liked monitoring it myself this time around. I didn’t need to carve out an hour and half to go to the lab to get tested just for them to say I failed. Then have to go to the 3 hour test where you have to stay at the lab during the duration of the testing just for them to tell me I don’t have gestational diabetes there too! 🤪

If you want to do the one hour test to get it over with you can do what’s called The Fresh Test instead of the drink the lab provides. I am not very familiar with it so talk to your doctor about this option.

If you are monitoring at home, I was told these are what the readings should be (again, talk to your doctor)

• Test in the morning before you eat or drink anything (water is okay). This is considered fasting since you haven’t eaten in several hours due to sleeping. This reading should be less than 99

• Then test 1 hour after eating breakfast, 1 he after eating lunch, and 1 he after eating dinner. This reading should be less than 140

• You will do this 4 times a day for just two weeks. But again ask your doctor

Which method would you prefer? As I have more kids it’s also increasingly difficult to get to the lab for these tests, especially the 3 hr one! So anything I can do at home I am game for!

What do you think of this series? “Things I didn’t know about pregnancy until they happened to me” I did one similar to it about 2 years ago and thought it would be nice to bring back to any first time mamas who would need it!
