Happy Easter! I wanted to share something about my Catholic upbringing and how this Easter was very different for me.

Growing up Catholic you see Jesus nailed to the cross everywhere. Most of us become desensitized to it. Instead of it being a constant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us, it just fades into the background.

When you grow up in a religious household where from day one you are taught that Jesus died for our sins so that we can be forgiven and be with him in heaven one day...you unfortunately take for granted this gift.

But ever since I became a mother my relationship with Christ and the understanding of what he did for us has changed.
Since becoming a mother, I am no longer able to live life for myself. Since becoming a mother, I have brutally realized there is only so much in my control. Since becoming a mother, I have learned that I can only do so much to protect my children, and I have to lean on God. In doing so I began to truly appreciate and realize just how tremendous his sacrifice was.

Jesus could have come down in a blaze of fire. He could have showcased his power in a way that no one could deny he was Christ our Savior. But he didn’t. He came down as an infant.
He was born into this world just like you and I. He grew in his mother’s womb. (I always wonder if Jesus tested boundaries the way every two or three year old does 😉 ). He lived a very humble lIfe.

He performed miracles to heal the sick and forgotten. He did nothing but love, and was crucified. He was whipped, beaten, and nailed to a cross where he asked God to forgive the sins of the very people who were torturing him.

He didn’t have to come in a body that could feel pain, but he did. He shed his blood so that we could be forgiven. I never understood how infinite the Lord’s love was until I really began reflecting on Jesus’ time on earth and his death.
