My top 5 tips on how we make it work after 12 years of marriage and 5 kids later.

1. Know that you are on the same team. During those testing and challenging times as parents (especially in the sleep deprivation stage) it can be easy to get frustrated with one another. Remember you’re in this together. You chose to do life together because you love each other. If it’s 3am and the baby is up crying, remember who you want by your side ❤️

2. Hug for 30 seconds everyday! If that means you need to set a reminder in your phone to do this then so be it! But physical touch when together is important. I don’t care how mad y’all are, carve out 30 seconds of your freakin day to hold one another. I am telling you it will mean more in the long run then whatever the stupid fight was about that day

3. Give each other compliments and show gratitude for one another everyday. Even something like “you look nice” or “thank you so much for getting up with the kids this morning’ even if it’s their “job” in the house, thank them for it! Think about where you work, isn’t it nice to know your work is appreciated even though it’s expected from you?

4. Stop expecting them to read your mind. Communicate your feelings and needs and do not be afraid to be vulnerable with one another. Being prideful with your spouse doesn’t do either of you any good. I NEVER say, “oh I am fine” when I am not. I let him in. ESPECIALLY during postpartum. He isn’t experiencing all the hormones along with the physical side of recovery so in order for him to understand where I am coming from I need to communicate.

5. Self reflect. It can be easy to get caught up in our own ways but sometimes we are wrong (I know hard to believe 😝).

But my biggest tip of all is making God the center of your relationship ❤️
