What happens when you challenge kids to a Room Cleaning World Championship? 🧺
 
Last Wednesday was the second annual #InternationalDayofPlay, a UN-sanctioned observance to remind us of the vital role of play in the lives of kids worldwide. Of course, our friends at the Life is Good Playmaker Project (lifeisgoodcoplaymakers) have been leveraging the power of play to improve the lives of vulnerable children for many years - and we couldn’t be more thrilled that their philosophy and science are gaining momentum on an international scale.
 
To mark this celebration, we headed to City Hall Plaza here in Boston and set up an interactive experience for kids: the Room Cleaning World Championship! This year’s Day of Play theme was “Choose Play - Every Day,” and the Playmakers know a thing or two about bringing the magic to the mundane.
 
Shirts flew. Chaos unfolded (literally). And smiles were sparked, everywhere you turned.
 
Seemingly small choices, like gamifying chores (how many pieces of clothing can you throw in the laundry bin in a minute?), make all the difference in the development and disposition of kids - because it’s not about what you’re doing, it’s about how you’re doing it. Frame anything as play, and you’ll bring a little joy to that task that might’ve otherwise just felt draining or repetitive.
