Let just be honest for a moment..

When my husband and I decided to foster, "color" was the furthest thing from our minds. If color was a big deal for us, then we wouldn't have become foster parents. Foster parenting is more about helping children in need versus concerning yourself with race. Once posting a video of our son's adoption in 2019, we went viral. Why? It's not like people haven't adopted before, right? I don't need to really tell you the reason we went viral, but just so we're clear, it was solely because the world wasn't used to seeing transracial adoption in reverse. Black parents to a white son, how sway 🤔...can't be real, no way! So ma'am you see, if it wasn't for people minding our business then we wouldn't be so "concerned with color" but because others are, then you'll get what you get! It's not like Rick and I were the first black people to adopt a white child and I'm sure we won't be the last. However, I've seen so many families like ours go through the same issue where people concern themselves with the "RACE" of our families. It's sad actually. 

The reason why I have to talk to my children about race ( don't get me started on my black children, that's another long post story for another day)...is because racism is VERY REAL. The fact that we can barely sit in a restaurant without someone staring us down, or be in the grocery store without someone asking me am I his babysitter or worse, that I've kidnapped him...its an almost DAILY THING. So excuse me Mary if it makes you uncomfortable that on MY PAGE I choose to talk about the racism, stereotypes, discrimination, and hate we deal with...I'm not here to make you comfortable but rather make it comfortable for my family to one day go outside of our home without feeling like we are one clown shy of a three-ring circus by the looks we get. Now, move around, respectfully! And that's on Mary had Jesus ✌🏽
