This morning I was contacted by a local emergency room to complete an emergency MH assessment, as I do PRN work with them. The guy was calm when I initially entered the room. As I introduced myself to him and the reason why I was there, his response was to the nurse, "I'm not allowing anyone with "clown" hair to say anything to me." The nurse's eyes scanned to the top of my crown and as our eyes met she had a look of embarrassment on her face. I kept my composure as the insults continued to come.

When the male doctor entered the room, the patient replied, "About time, someone who I can trust. When can I get out of here?" The doctor looked at him and said, "Once the therapist documentation clears you for discharge." His response, "Oh, I'm not cooperating with her. I request a new therapist." The doctor stated, "Well enough. She's on call this week but as soon as the new therapist rotates in next week we will schedule your assessment after Thanksgiving." The male became very upset and kept ranting about the way I looked, and my hair, and how he has rights to refuse to be treated by a "clown." I obliged his request, skipped out the room with my crown still in tact, not in the slightest ashamed of 1 coil on my head.

I thought back to the many days I damaged my hair by straightening it to conform to what others viewed as "professional." Those days are long gone!! You will catch ALL this afro & this professionalism. I'll never again work for a company that can't accept and respect the way my hair naturally grows out of my head! If my hair offends you, it should! That's your problem, not mine.

The thing about it is, had he not refused my services, I would have still conducted the assessment without bias or judgment. Sometimes your own hatred will have you in the hospital for Thanksgiving. 🤷🏾‍♀️
I did not have this outfit on but my hair was this same style 😂
BeYOUtifully you!
