A future where Seoul to Busan takes just 20 minutes 🚅

Starting in 2026, Korea is set to fully push forward the development of ultra-high-speed HyperTube technology.

The HyperTube is a next-gen transport system where maglev trains run through near-vacuum tubes, minimizing air resistance and reaching speeds of up to 1,200 km/h.

Which means… That roughly 400 km between Seoul and Busan? Just 20 minutes.

For comparison:
🚅 KTX takes about 2.5 hours,
✈️ even flying takes around 1 hour

so yeah… 20 minutes sounds unreal.

The project will focus on four key areas:
dedicated tracks, superconducting electromagnets, driving control systems, and train design. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport says the goal is to lead the global rail market and take Korean tech worldwide.

If accessibility across Korea improves this much, it could seriously ease issues like over-concentration in the capital region—making this even more exciting.

At this speed… commuting from Busan to Seoul might actually be possible. 👀🚄 Of course, when it’ll actually be commercialized is still up in the air.

2026년부터 초고속 ‘하이퍼튜브’ 핵심 기술 개발이 본격 추진될 예정이에요.

하이퍼튜브는 공기 저항이 거의 없는 아진공 튜브 안을 자기부상 열차가 달리는 미래형 교통수단으로,
최고 시속 1,200km까지 도달할 수 있다고 합니다.

이 말은 곧… 약 400km 거리의 서울–부산을 단 20분 만에 이동할 수 있다는 뜻이죠.

지금은
KTX로 약 2시간 30분,
비행기를 타도 1시간 내외 걸리는데…
20분이라니, 이거 진짜 실화인가요? 😳

이번 개발에서는 전용 선로, 초전도 전자석, 주행 제어 시스템, 차체 설계까지 4가지 핵심 기술 분야가 다뤄질 예정이에요.

국토교통부는 이번 기술 개발을 통해 글로벌 철도 시장을 선도하고, 한국 기술이 세계로 뻗어나가길 기대한다고 밝혔습니다.

무엇보다 전국 접근성이 크게 높아지면 수도권 집중 같은 한국 사회의 문제도 많이 완화될 수 있을 것 같아 더 기대되네요.

이 정도 속도면… 부산에서 서울로 출퇴근도 가능하겠는데요? 👀🚄 물론 상용화 시기는 아직 미정입니다.
