🌐 International standards influence global markets far more than most people realize. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟗𝟎% 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞, compared with just 15% in the late 1990s. One standard alone — the shipping container — boosted global trade more than all major trade agreements of the last 60 years. Yet many developing countries still lack the capability to participate in shaping these rules, even as compliance costs rise. ⁠
