Imagine me growing up and hearing everyone say that they wanted to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, and engineers, then sharing, “I really just want to be a wife and a mom.” So many horrified looks. People were baffled.

My mom was a SAHM (and the best one ever, if I do say so myself), so I experienced firsthand the impact that having a parent stay home can have on a child’s upbringing. I got my college degree then went on to get a master’s degree so I would always have the option of working outside of the home if I ever wanted or needed to. But, for me right now, the choice is an easy one. Being able to stay home with my babies just like my mama did is an honor. 

Some days when I really wish I could have a break, I think it might be easier if I worked outside of the home. But, from what moms that do have shared with me, it’s just a different kind of hard. I feel so blessed that my dreams came true and I’m able to focus on the most rewarding (and challenging) job ever: raising children. 

I do recognize that being able to stay home is a privilege. I get that it’s not an option for everyone. I also understand that some moms just don’t want to, and I get that too! You do you, mama. We’re all just doing the best that we can for our littles and for our families. Let’s uplift each other. No judgement for those who dream of being career women and no judgement for those of us who want to be homemakers. It’s all important work.
