Getting out of the house with kids can be overwhelming, but I’ve always enjoyed being out and about. Having kids may slow me down at times, but it doesn’t stop the show. Here are my tips for getting out with a toddler and a baby:

1. Nurse or bottle feed baby before you leave home, or in the car before you get out. I’m breastfeeding Jax, and it can be hard to keep Harper occupied if I’m feeding her him while we’re out since she’s usually excited. I always try to feed him before we leave home so that it’s out of the way, or, I feed him while Harper is still contained in her car seat listening to whatever soundtrack she’s requested that day.
2. Find a stroller that you love that both of your kids can ride in. Harper is 3, so she doesn’t NEED to be in a stroller by any means, but having one that she can ride in honestly makes outings easier for all of us. There are times (like when we’re walking through parking lots or when my hands are full) where I make sitting nonnegotiable. The @valcobabyusa Slim Twin has been a lifesaver because it’s easy for me to load and unload and both of my kiddos fit comfortably. #gifted It also has great storage, but is still compact enough to maneuver with ease.
3. Let baby nap on the go or in the car on the way home. These days, our daily routine often feels like it revolves around Jaxson’s nap schedule. That’s not fair to Harper, and I know she got tired of constantly hearing, “after your brother’s nap” and “we have to go so the baby can take a nap.” While I don’t make him napping on the go a regular thing, on the days when we are out and about, I time it so that he can take his second nap in his stroller (and the Valco Slim Twin is perfect for this because the seat reclines all the way back) or in his carseat on the way home.

Share your tips for getting out with kids in the comments! I’m always curious what works for other mamas.
