My big, big girl ♥️
A few nights ago I decided that our nursing journey was over. Our weaning process has been slow, going from nursing on demand to nursing 4 times a day when she was 6 months old, then cutting out one session every couple of months until only the bedtime feed remained. Harper’s pediatrician who I love and respect told me at her 12 month check up that my breastfeeding journey could be done whenever I wanted it to be, that I had done a great job and that now the decision was totally up to me. But, I didn’t feel like Harper was ready. I didn’t feel like I was ready. So we continued and I wasn’t sure when I would stop, but I did know that I needed my boobies to help us get through our flight to Japan 😅
Seemingly out of nowhere this week, my mommy gut told me that we were ready and I came to the realization that the previous night’s nursing session was our last. I let Harper’s daddy take over bedtime and it’s been smooth sailing. She hasn’t asked for “milk” and the transition has been smoother than I ever would have anticipated. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little sad that she didn’t even ASK, but I’m also so incredibly proud of her. It’s just another example of the fact that babies don’t keep. They grow so quickly. They learn and change so quickly. One day you have a baby on your boob and the next you have a toddler bossing you around... and it’s such a beautiful, beautiful journey.
