Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, pledging to halt border clashes that killed at least 47 people and displaced more than one million over three weeks of fighting, according to a joint statement.⁣
⁣
The truce took effect at 12:00 pm (0500 GMT) and applies to all weapons and targets, including civilians, civilian infrastructure and military objectives, across all affected border areas.⁣
⁣
Both sides agreed to freeze troop movements, allow displaced civilians to return home, cooperate on demining and cybercrime, and for Thailand to return 18 captured Cambodian soldiers within 72 hours.⁣
⁣
The EU urged both countries to implement the ceasefire ‘in good faith,’ while the UN’s human rights chief said he hoped it would lead to lasting peace. Thailand’s defence minister called the truce ‘a door to a peaceful resolution.’⁣
