Ujamaa reminds us that our dollars have power — especially when we choose to build, support, and sustain our own communities.

📍Today, we’re highlighting leaders who showed what cooperative economics looks like in action:

• Annie Turnbo Malone — built the Poro Company, creating jobs and economic opportunity for thousands of Black women.

• Tom Joyner — a Tuskegee University alum who used his media platform to reinvest directly into HBCUs through scholarships and fundraising.

• John H. Johnson — founder of Ebony and Jet, who built a media empire that kept Black stories, talent, and dollars within the community.

Their work reminds us that Ujamaa isn’t just about ownership — it’s about circulating resources so everyone can thrive.
