When the doctors found that my older sister had a brain tumor, we were surprised because she was in her early twenties and very high-energy. But she was diagnosed with cancer, and from there, it was a very quick decline. She started losing her vision and then the ability to move. 

I wondered why this was happening to someone so faithful. I asked God to heal her, but it just didn’t happen. I had a really hard time accepting and understanding that. People talk about how sometimes bad things just happen to good people and the Lord is refining us, but it’s still really hard to understand. 

Before my sister passed away, she told me, “If this is what the Lord wants, then I will be OK with that. And I need you to be OK with that.” She put it on me to pray to understand and accept the Lord’s will because it’s important that when we’re grateful for life, we’re grateful for all of life, not just the good times. As I pondered it and prayed like she asked me to, I started to understand that it was OK. It's what the Lord wanted. And I was comforted to know that she's in a better place. 

Prayer is more than just asking God to lighten our burdens. We can ask Him for the strength to accept His will or the comfort to get through those hard times. I would tell other youth who go through something like this to pray for comfort because He will give it to you. Even when you're upset about something that He didn’t give you, He will still comfort you. —Wisdom #LookUntoChrist
