She didn’t just compete with the men, she beat them! 

In 1981, she became the first woman to win a World Rally Championship event, conquering the treacherous Rallye Sanremo in her Audi Quattro. She went on to claim three more WRC victories and finished runner-up in the 1982 championship, the highest position ever achieved by a woman driver in WRC.

Known for her fearless driving style on gravel and tarmac alike, Mouton dominated legendary stages from Monte Carlo to Pikes Peak, where she shattered the overall record in 1985.

But her impact extended far beyond the driver’s seat. As President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission and manager of the Race of Champions, she’s dedicated decades to opening doors for the next generation.

Michèle proved that speed knows no gender. Her legacy isn’t just what she won, it’s who she inspired.
