For this week's story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have @abbeyylizz & @eric_barnes_ ✨

"We met 3 years ago at Rutgers but it took us a year to finally meet and date. We met on an app at Rutgers in 2019, added each other on social medias and talked here and there throughout two years, we would constantly be in the same place on campus at the same time but never talked. It wasn’t until fall of 2021 I was in grad school and he was running track and field a 5th year for his eligibility we decided to meet. Quickly from our first date of a Rutgers football game there was a huge connection and we instantly became best friends. 

From there we started a relationship and never second guessed it after that. I soon learned all about track since he was a Rutgers athlete and I had no idea anything about it. We enjoyed many nights dancing at queens, getting food at many many Rutgers restaurants and just enjoying our last year at Rutgers together. Rutgers gave me my best friend and the love of my life. I couldn’t imagine spending my time with anyone else. There is no one else in the world I would sit hours at a track meet just to watch them race 2 minutes for. Rutgers will always hold a special place in my heart as my alma mater but now it holds a bigger place by giving me the chance to meet him. 

We will always continue coming back for homecoming and reminiscing on the nights we were “together” at the same place but hadn’t met yet. Rutgers wouldn’t have been the same for me if I didn’t have you, my friends graduated and didn’t come back for grad school, I was feeling lonely and far from home, living there for the first since covid, he made Rutgers feel like home to me. It has almost been a year together now and I owe it all to us being at Rutgers together."
