For this week's story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have @kensquire1 & @hannahkhavaran ✨

"On September 3rd, 2016, (almost six years ago as I write this) we both attended a special orientation meeting for commuter students. I was on time. She was not. Having taken my seat and with the presentation underway, I was surprised by my now-girlfriend awkwardly scooting around my chair so as to avoid walking through the center of the room. She took the seat next to me and we exchanged a casual “hello.” After the presentation, we walked to the stadium together but became separated after she went into the turkey sandwich line (lunch was catered) and I went to the salami sandwich line. Luckily, immediately prior to parting ways (and being disappointed by her choice of sandwich) I got her phone number. A few days later we met at the football game. The rest is history.

The subsequent years were filled with lots of studying and many post-class lunch and dinner dates at Henry’s Diner, the College Ave. Student Center and On the Border. She ended up going back to Rutgers to get her pharmacy degree. I went on to be a lawyer and now work in New Brunswick. We still stop by Henry’s for old times sake. It almost didn’t happen. One day we were talking about the day we met and apparently, we were both reluctant to go to the orientation…That’s also when I found out that her awkward, chair-circumventing approach was strategic and that I was, in fact, targeted. College and life would have been a lot less fun had we not gone to that meeting. We have no regrets…and that’s even despite her picking the turkey sandwich."
