2025 was a year of nonstop action for Berkeley. In no particular order, UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons testified in Washington, D.C., in front of members of the U.S. House, Cal fired head football coach Justin Wilcox after nine years, Turning Point USA hosted an event on campus that was met with emphatic protest and Gov. Gavin Newsom gave a press conference from Campbell Hall. Throughout all of these events, the Daily Cal’s photo staff has been present, documenting small pieces of this frantic year. These are some of the many highlights.

1. School spirit flowed through campus during the Tree Chopping Rally before the Big Game.
2. Following the entrance of ICE vehicles into Alameda’s Coast Guard Island, a large crowd of protesters formed at the entry point of the island.
3. Riot police formed a barrier between Turning Point USA event attendees and protesters at UC Berkeley.
4. UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons testified before the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., on alleged antisemitism at UC Berkeley.
5. Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele pictured after a win against SMU in Cal’s final home game of the season.
6. Cal football head coach Justin Wilcox was fired after nine seasons with the Bears.
7. Cal basketball’s Dai Dai Ames featured against the University of the Pacific in one of Cal’s 12 wins to kick off the season.
8. During Halloween, mysterious pumpkins were found around campus, including one on Sather Gate.
9. A member of Jugger at Berkeley pictured demonstrating one of several weapons used in the sport.
10. Hundreds were present during June’s “No Kings Day” demonstration on the I-880 pedestrian overpass.
11. Governor Gavin Newsom and several other officials visited UC Berkeley’s Campbell Hall to sign legislation regarding quantum and fusion development.
12. Ditto AI’s yacht party was a unique dating experience that showcased the platform’s ability to pair people together in hopes of true love.
13. Many performers such as King Princess graced Berkeley’s storied local concert venues this year.
