TEAMMATE SPOTLIGHT: 𝐀𝐛𝐡𝐢 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐣𝐞, Sr. Manager of Data Analytics Engineering.

Abhi has been part of the #sqUAd for 3.5 years, and is a member of the Women Inspiring, Leading, and Living (W.I.L.L.) Teammate Resource Group (TRG). In 2021, Abhi co-founded the Women in Digital chapter of W.I.L.L. Below, she shares what inspired her to create this focused TRG chapter and why it’s crucial to be inclusive in the workplace.

“As part of my 2021 Individual Development Plan, I set the goal to create a place for Women in Tech that was just as safe, supportive, and uplifting as the home each teammate has created for themselves and their families. Creating a specific TRG chapter focused on those principles allows us to do exactly that. I want to educate our internal teammates, and the wider community, of the unique challenges and experiences of this specific community to ensure that we as a company are empathetic and cognizant of how we interact, our ways of working, and even how we create our products. It’s important to do this because in order to retain and attract talent in this space, it’s not just about pay, title, and benefits – it's about fostering, elevating, and empowering the whole person. By prioritizing inclusion of women in the workplace, we allow #diversity to drive #innovation.

I was born and raised in India, which is a male dominating cultural environment. Fortunately, my parents provided a liberating environment at home, so I didn’t feel that I was treated differently. I moved to U.S. in my early twenties, and I have been working in technology and data my entire professional life. #dataanalytics has always been one of my strengths and I wanted to build on that. I started my career as a Data Analyst/Functional Business Architect and worked my way up to where I am today, which is managing the Data and Analytics Engineering Team at #UA. I have had a few instances where I’ve experienced what being a female means in this space, and that it takes something different for you to compete and move forward, but taking that challenge on helped me grow even stronger.”
