It took 83 days to film The Alamo in Brackettville, Texas. 7,000 extras portrayed Mexican soldiers during the battle scenes. According to the film's production notes, 1,600 horses and mules and 300 longhorn cattle were used in the film.

Films in Review wrote, “It is not only entertaining and emotionally moving throughout its three hours, but it is also exceptionally good technically. Furthermore, Wayne’s own acting is without fault.”
