Today marks the 62nd Anniversary of the release of Donovan’s Reef—the final film where John Wayne teamed up with legendary director John Ford. Over their careers, Duke and Ford collaborated on 22 films, starting with Duke herding geese in Mother Machree (1927).

Fun fact: Donovan’s Reef was filmed on location in Hawaii, where the lush scenery and tropical backdrop were a stark contrast to the rugged western landscapes Duke was known for.
