Nassau jail officials denied state Democrats entry into an East Meadow jail after officials arrived to inspect cells used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold some 1,400 immigrants since January.

State Sen. Julia Salazar and Assemb. Michaelle Solages (D-Elmont) planned to meet with jail officials, tour ICE cells and speak with detainees, citing a state law that allows them to make unannounced visits.
