The plaintiff, #GiuseppeCorletto, says he was 21 in 2003 when he sought guidance from McClurkin while struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his faith, according to nbcnews. According to the lawsuit, Corletto attended McClurkin’s church in Long Island, New York, after reading the pastor’s autobiography, which described homosexuality as a “curse” he claimed to have overcome.

Corletto told NBC News that after a church event where McClurkin spoke about being raped as a child, he was invited to meet with him and initially believed the relationship was mentoring. He now alleges he was groomed from the beginning.

The lawsuit claims McClurkin molested Corletto during so-called “pray the gay away” spiritual sessions, with the abuse escalating over several years while Corletto worked as McClurkin’s assistant and traveled with him. Corletto says McClurkin’s role as both mentor and employer made it difficult to speak out.
